Closets haven't always been very desirable part of the house. They weren't decorated and just had hanging rods and shelves for storage. Nowadays closets are rooms unto themselves and are being designed to showcase the beautiful items in your wardrobe. Here are something I consider when designing a closet space.
The closet should ideally have windows that provide natural light. In order to maintain privacy, use Roman shades in a semi-translucent fabric. This will still allow for light to get in and privacy to be maintained.
Using mirrored doors is a great substitute for a full length mirror. They keep an unwanted items out of sight and help create the illusion of an even bigger closet.
One of the most important things to think about is shelving. Make sure that you have designated shelf space for things like boots, flats, heels, purses and jewelry. There should also be a place to put smaller items every day items like perfume and fresh flowers.
The center is an ideal folding table or can be used as storage for smaller items like scarves, jewelry drawers and hiding the hamper. If you use glass doors on the island, it can be a great display area as well.
A built in bench or a tufted ottoman is a the perfect place to be able to sit down and put on a pair of shoes or take a moment to relax after a long day. Having seating at a vanity area is also something to keep in mind when thinking about how to design your closet.
